McTrademark

McDonald’s regularly claims that any use of the “Mc” prefix in a company or product name infringes what McDonald’s lawyers call the “Mc Family of brands.” Among McDonald’s recent targets: Lauren McClusky, a teenager who tried to use the name “McFest” for concerts she organizes to raise money for the Special Olympics.

So far, however, McDonald’s has been unable to shut down the McFoxy fast-food chain in Ukraine, a country with lax trademark laws. McFoxy copied not just the Mc prefix but the McFoxy logo and other elements of its design and the products it sells are also plainly copied from McDonald’s. One of the McFoxy restaurants in Kiev is right next door to a McDonald’s.

The Travel Channel recently paid McFoxy a visit.
